Description:  MORNING STAR KENNEL (CANCELLED)
Date: 12/1/2004
Inspection File:  None Available
Notes: THE 4 COCKER SPANIELS THAT ARE HOUSED IN THE OUTSIDE ENCLOSURES HAVE SEVERAL AREAS OF MATTED HAIR THAT COULD CAUSE THE ANIMALS DISCOMFORT AND SKIN IRRITATIONS. THESE ANIMALS SHOULD BE GROOMED AND THE MATTED HAIR REMOVED TO REDUCE THE RISKS OF INJURY TO THE ANIMALS. THIS WOULD HELP TO ASSURE THE ANIMALS' WELL-BEING AND GOOD HEALTH. THIS AFFECTS 4 ANIMALS AND SHOULD BE CORRECTED BY 12-04-04.

INSIDE THE CONVERTED TRAILER KENNEL BUILDING THAT HOUSED ADULTS AND THEIR PUPPIES, SEVERAL HEAT LAMPS WERE SUSPENDED INTO THE ENCLOSURES. THE EXPOSED LAMP WIRES WERE READILY ACCESSIBLE TO THE ANIMALS IN THE ENCLOSURES. THE LAMPS SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM THE ENCLOSURES AND THE WIRES PLACED IN CONDUITS OR PLACED IN A MANNER THAT THE ANIMALS COULD NOT BITE INTO THE WIRE INSULATION OR COME INTO CONTACT WITH A HOT LIGHT BULB THAT COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE INJURY TO THE ANIMALS. THIS WOULD HELP TO ASSURE THE ANIMALS' SAFETY AND WELL-BEING. THIS AFFECTS APPROXIMATELY 16 ANIMALS AND SHOULD BE CORRECTED BY 12-04-04.

INSIDE SEVERAL ENCLOSURES, PET FOOD CANS WERE LEFT FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME. THIS WAS EVIDENT BY THE APPARENT CHEWING OF THE CANS BY THE ANIMALS. SEVERAL OF THE CANS HAD AREAS OF SHARP AND JAGGED METAL EDGES THAT EXPOSED THE ANIMALS TO A POTENTIAL INJURY RISK. THE FOOD SHOULD BE PLACED IN PROPER RECEPTACLES THAT WOULD ELIMINATE THE RISK OF POSSIBLE INJURY TO THE ANIMALS BY THEM CHEWING AND GNAWING ON METAL CANS. THIS WOULD HELP TO ASSURE THE ANIMALS' WELL-BEING. THIS AFFECTS ALL ANIMALS AND SHOULD BE CORRECTED BY 12-04-04.

ALL AREAS (FLOORS, CEILINGS, WALLS AND STORAGE AREAS) INSIDE THE KENNEL BUILDINGS ARE SOILED AND CLUTTERED. THESE AREAS HAVE NOT BEEN CLEANED AND SANITIZED AS REQUIRED BY THE ACCEPTED ANIMAL HUSBANDRY STANDARDS ESTABLISHED BY THE ANIMAL WELFARE ACT. SPILLED FEED, RODENT DROPPINGS, COBWEBS AND DIRT WERE APPARENT IN ALL OF THE BUILDINGS. ALL BUILDING SURFACES SHOULD BE CLEANED, SANITIZED AND FREE OF CLUTTER AS OFTEN AS NECESSARY TO PROVIDE A SAFE AND CLEAN ENVIRONMENT FOR THE ANIMALS THAT ARE BEING HOUSED IN THEM. THIS WOULD HELP TO REDUCE THE RISKS OF DISEASE TRANSMISSION AND HELP TO ASSURE THE ANIMALS' WELL-BEING. THIS AFFECTS APPROXIMATELY 300 ANIMALS AND SHOULD BE CORRECTED BY 12-11-04.

INSIDE THE FRONT KENNEL BUILDING THERE WAS A PAIL OF FEED THAT WAS WITHOUT A LID AND UNCOVERED. ALL OPEN FEED AND FOOD SUPPLEMENTS SHOULD BE STORED IN A WATER-PROOF CONTAINER WITH A TIGHTFITTING LID. THIS WOULD REDUCE THE RISKS OF FEED CONTAMINATION OR SPOILAGE BY PESTS AND MOISTURE. THIS AFFECTS APPROXIMATELY 136 ANIMALS AND SHOULD BE CORRECTED BY 12-02-04.
SEVERAL OF THE HOUSES THAT WERE PROVIDED FOR THE ANIMALS THAT WERE HOUSED IN THE OUTDOOR ENCLOSURE DID NOT HAVE A WIND/RAIN BREAK COVERING THE HOUSE ENTRANCES. A FUNCTIONAL WIND/RAIN BREAK SHOULD BE PROVIDED ON ALL HOUSES TO ASSIST THE ANIMALS IN STAYING WARM AND DRY DURING PERIODS OF ADVERSE WEATHER. THIS WOULD HELP TO ASSURE THE ANIMALS' GOOD HEALTH. THIS AFFECTS 7 ANIMALS AND SHOULD BE CORRECTED BY 12-04-04.

THE FOOD AND WATER RECEPTACLES THAT WERE PROVIDED FOR THE ANIMALS HAVE NOT BEEN CLEANED AND SANITIZED AS OFTEN AS REQUIRED. SEVERAL FEEDERS HAD DIRT AND CAKED-ON FEED IN THEM. ALL RECEPTACLES SHOULD BE CLEANED AND SANITIZED EVERY TWO WEEKS TO REDUCE THE RISKS OF DISEASE TRANSMISSION AND FOOD CONTAMINATION. THIS WOULD HELP TO ASSURE THE ANIMALS' GOOD HEALTH. THIS AFFECTS ALL ANIMALS AND SHOULD BE CORRECTED BY 12-08-04.
