Description: Roberta Collins
Date: 10/14/2003
Inspection File:  43-A-3877_OCT-14-2003.pdf
Notes: *** The facility is not currently maintaining the records of dogs on hand. All adult dogs within the kennel should be listed on the APHIS form 7005 or other formats that have been approved by the regional office. These records should contain all required information and be updated on a regular basis. Affects 52 adult dogs. To be corrected by:11/14/03-

*** The shed in the center of the kennel area had piles of empty feed sacks and trash stack along the west side the area. This debris should be removed from the close proximity to the animal area to reduce the habitat for pest and vermin. All trash and refuse should be kept in closed containers and removed regularly to reduce pest, rodents and disease hazards to the dogs and puppies. Affects all dogs. To be corrected by:10/16/03-

*** Four adult dogs were provided with shelters that did not have adequate wind and rain breaks attached to the entrance of the shelter. All outside shelters should have wind and rain breaks attached to the entrance to prevent the dogs and bedding from the effects of wind and rain. Affects four adult dogs. To be corrected by:10/28/03-

*** Thirteen adult dogs and four puppies were housed in enclosures that had construction surfaces that were not impervious to moisture. One dog was housed on the north end of the kennel in an enclosure that extended into a shed that was of wooden construction that was not sealed.

Twelve adult dogs and four puppies housed at the south end of the kennel were housed in multiple pens that had unsealed surfaces in the shelters and on the support structures. These unsealed surfaces consisted of worn, weathered, and deteriorated wood that is not easily cleaned and sanitized. All surfaces that the dogs contact in outdoor enclosures should be sealed to be made impervious to moisture to facilitate in cleaning and sanitation. Affects 13 adult dogs and four puppies. To be corrected by:11/14/03-

*** The northwest pen of the southern shed had broken wiring along the sides of the enclosure. The enclosure containing two dogs on the south end of the kennel had numerous areas of broken wire along the pen sides. All enclosures should be kept in good repair. All areas of broken wiring should be repaired and/or replaced to prevent injury to the dogs contained by entanglement in the wires. Affects 3 dogs. To be corrected by:10/28/03-

*** The south pen containing three min pins has a piece of stock panel along the west side of the pen with sharp edges that could injure or entangle the contained dogs. All sharp edges and points should be removed to protect the dogs from injury. Affects 3 dogs. To be corrected by:10/21/03 *

*** The pen on the south end of the kennel containing the four puppies has nail heads protruding into the enclosure. These bent nails should be removed from the pen to prevent the puppies from injury. Affects four puppies. To be corrected by:10/18/03-

*** Four adult dogs were tethered within the kennel areas. The owner stated the tethering was to prevent the animals from escaping the enclosures. All tethering of dogs on a permenant basis is prohibited and temporary tethering should only be done with prior approval from an APHIS official. Affects four dogs. To be corrected by:10/18/03-
