Notes: Section 2.40(a) - Adequate veterinary care. Each dealer or exhibitor shall have an attending veterinarian to provide adequate veterinary care to their animals.

There were 4 animals that needed to be seen by attending vet. In North-east building (north of old mastiff building) a cocker in pen 3 looks like it has prolapsed uteri us. In next pen over pen 2 paws of animals have no hair. In old big red building a terrier looks to have a growth on lower right hand side of mouth, in old school building west kennel 8th pen south wall east of west wall there is a Bichon that cannot stand on right front leg. Animals do not look like these problems are distressing the dogs but should be seen by vet ASAP. # of animals affected approx. 4. Correction date by 03-12-04

Section 3.1(a) - Structure/construction. Housing facilities for dogs/cats must be designed, constructed, and maintained so that the animals are secured and protected from injury.

There are several areas that are in need of attention.

1- Small building west of old mastiff kennel has wire divider walls outside runs that have broken wires that need to be fixed. In old big red building some inside wire wall as well as outside wire walls raised runs have the same problem approx. # of animals affected 20.

2- Several kennels outside wooden frames dogs have chewed supports that need to be replaced.

3- In old school buildings several areas of tile flooring are missing and need to be replaced to make floor impervious to moisture.

4- In old large dog building where wall meets the floor has a gap that needs to be sealed so that it can be cleaned and sanitized. There is now a build up of food fecal material that is getting caught

5- In east old school building 5th pen north wall from west wall there is a sheet metal patch that is being pulled away from wall. This could cause injury to animals because edges are sharp.

6- Old mastiff kennel inside outside entry way needs to be repaired where dogs have torn off covering over the wood. Approx. # of animals affected 50. Correction date 05-11-04

Section 3.1C(1) - Surfaces of housing facilities must be constructed in a manner and made of materials that allow them to be cleaned and sanitized or removed or replaced when worn or soiled.

Through all kennels there are wood surfaces (wall, supports, new and old frames etc) that are not impervious to moisture. All wood material inside building and shaded outside areas needs to be sealed. Approx # of animal affected 100. Correction date 06-11-04

Section 3.1C (3) - Cleaning. Surfaces in which dogs and cats come in contact must be spot cleaned daily and sanitized.

Thought entire kennel (inside enclosures and outside runs) there is an excessive amount of fecal material, hair (especially hanging down from wire flooring) that is in direct contact with the animals. This is especially on raised outside dog runs. If possible (weather permitting for outside cleaning) should be spot cleaned daily. Inside should always be spot cleaned daily. Approx. # of animals affected 500. Correction date 03-12-04

Section 3.1(e) - Storage. Supplies of food and bedding for dogs and cats must be stored in a manner that protects the supplies from spoilage, contamination, and vermin infestation.

Where unopened bags are stored licensee cannot clean around feed because to close to wall on 3 sides. This is causing a vermin problem. Noticed several bags that were chewed open by mice. Licensee needs to store feed in a place where all areas (under, around and over can be cleaned and identify if rodents are getting into unopened feed bags. This should prevent the contamination of feed, and alert the licensee that a better program of rodent control is needed. Correction date 03 14-04

Section 3.1(f) - Drainage and waste disposal for dogs and cats. Frequent collection, removal, and disposal of animal and food waste, bedding, debris, and waste must be maintained.

Section 3.1(f) - Housing facilities for dogs and cats must be equipped with drainage systems that are constructed and operated so water is rapidly eliminated and animals stay dry.

There are several raised wire runs that have an excessive fecal buildup that needs to be removed weather permitting. Material is still frozen so not affecting animals.  There is also a drainage problem in new outside dog runs. Noticed most runs have a covering of ice. Need some way of eliminating water from runs so will not freeze in runs. Correction by 04-01-04

Section 3.3(a) - Temperature. Sheltered housing facilities for dogs and cats must be sufficiently heated or cooled to protect them from temperature extremes.

Several kennels (all except big barn) have had the heaters turned off or lowered. The temperature in building is below 40 degrees. Kennels are housing short haired dogs as well as the dogs that need to see vet. Heat needs to be turned back on or turned up since the ambient temperature dropped approx. 25 degrees since 03-10-04. Approx. # of animals affected 300. Correction date 03-11-04

Section 3.6(a) (2) (x) - Primary enclosures. The floor shall be constructed in a manner to protect dogs? And cats' feet and legs from injury. If wire mesh or slatted construction, it should not allow the dogs' and cats' feet to pass through any openings in the flooring.

In barn room housing weaned puppies (north-west room) some puppy's feet are going through wire flooring. A solid surface can added to keep feet from going through or a smaller wire will have to replace the existing wire floor. Approx. 3 of animals affected 8. Correction date 03-11-04

Section 3.9(b) - Feeding. Food receptacles either must be made of a durable material that can be easily cleaned and sanitized or must be disposable, & must be located so as to minimize contamination excreta and pests, and be protected from rain and snow.

There are several plastic feeders in all kennels that are chewed making them unsanitizable. Out of approx. 300 feeders only about 75 need to be addressed. Licensee can either repair feeders by filing down and removing chewed areas or replace them. Correction date 04-01-04

Section 3.10 - Watering. Water receptacles for dogs and cats must be kept clean and sanitized.
In new large kennel that doesn't have automatic waters, there are plastic water buckets that are chewed. In two kennels (old big building and old big red that have automatic watering system) there are chewed plastic watering buckets that are chewed. These need to be removed, fixed so that they are sanitizable or removed. Approx # of animals affected 100. Correction date 04-01-04

Section 3.11(d) - Pest control for dogs and cats. Need to provide an effective program for the control of pests which may include insects, external parasites, birds, and mammals.

Noticed several kennels that have mouse fecal material on floor. Some bags of unopened dog food have been chewed open where food has spilled out on floor an fecal material was seen. Licensee must rethink his rodent control. Correction 04-01-04

Licensee was told of the non-compliant items during exit interview.

This inspection, exit interview, record check & review of 7006's was conducted by Ron Beard A.C.I. Don Fox A.C.I and Dr.
Jamilon Niemann V.M.O. with Steve Steele owner of facility.
